Pages can open documents saved on iPad, in iCloud, on connected servers, and in other storage providers such as Dropbox. You can also use Pages to open and edit Microsoft Word documents (.doc and .docx).
In the document manager, do one of the following:
Open a local version of a document: Tap the document thumbnail.
Tip: You can search the document manager by document name (but not folder name) or view documents by date or name. To see these controls, swipe down on the document manager screen.
Open a document stored in the Pages folder in iCloud Drive: Tap the document thumbnail.
All files and folders inside the Pages folder in iCloud Drive appear in the document manager on your iOS devices.
Open a document stored elsewhere in iCloud Drive: Tap
in the top-left corner of the screen, tap iCloud Drive, tap the folder that contains the document, then tap the document.
The thumbnail appears in the document manager and a progress bar appears on the thumbnail during the download. When the download is finished, tap the thumbnail.
Note: If you don’t see your documents, you may need to set up iCloud on your device, or turn on iCloud Drive for Pages, in Settings > iCloud. If you haven’t upgraded your iCloud account to use iCloud Drive, you can open and edit iCloud documents, but syncing won’t work in all cases. See this Apple Support article for more information.
Open a document sent with AirDrop: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center, then tap AirDrop. Tap a discovery option, and when the AirDrop message appears, tap Add.
Open a document from another file provider: Tap
in the top-left corner of the screen, tap More, then choose from the available sources. The provider name is added to the list. Tap the provider name, then tap the document.
Documents opened this way aren’t added as thumbnails in the document manager. You must open documents from other file providers through the
menu each time.
Open a document from a WebDAV server or iTunes: Tap the small
in the top-left corner of the screen, tap WebDAV or iTunes, provide the required information, then tap the document. iTunes appears only if you’ve already added documents to iTunes.
The document thumbnail appears in the document manager and the document opens as a local copy. If you edit the document, the changes aren’t synced with other devices unless you move the document to iCloud.
You can open Pages documents in other apps installed on your device. For example, you can open a document as an ePub in iBooks.
In the document manager, tap
, then tap Open in Another App.
Tap the document.
Tap a format (you see only formats supported by the apps installed on your device).
For example, if you want to open the document in iBooks, choose ePub.
Tap an app.
A copy of your document opens or becomes available in the app.
If you receive an invitation to collaborate on a document with others, tap the link in the invitation to open the document in a web browser. You can’t edit the document on an iOS or Android device; you need a Mac or PC to edit the document. To learn about working with others in a shared document, see Collaborate with others on a document.
