Use iCloud with Pages

iCloud stores your documents and keeps them up-to-date on your computers and iOS devices that are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID. You always see the latest version of your document, no matter where you made your last edits.

For seamless syncing of documents, use iCloud Drive, iOS 8 or later on your devices, and OS X 10.10 or later on your Mac computers.

You can also use Pages for iCloud to create and edit Pages documents using a supported web browser on a Mac or Windows computer.

Set up iCloud Drive on your iOS device

  1. Tap Settings on your Home screen, then do one of the following:

    • If you’re already signed in: Tap your name at the top of Settings.

    • If you’re using an iOS version earlier than iOS 10.1.3: Tap iCloud, then sign in with your Apple ID.

    • If you’re not signed in with an Apple ID: Tap “Sign in to your iPad” and enter your Apple ID, or request an Apple ID, then sign in. Follow any instructions to authenticate.

Important: If you forgot your Apple ID or its password, you can recover it on the Apple ID website. Though you can have more than one Apple ID, it’s not recommended. iTunes Store and App Store purchases made with one Apple ID can’t be merged with those made using another Apple ID.

  2. Tap iCloud, then scroll down and turn on iCloud Drive.

  3. Turn on Pages.

This setting allows Pages to store documents in iCloud.

  4. In the list on the left, scroll down to the apps at the bottom.

  5. Tap Pages, then turn on Use iCloud.

When iCloud is turned off for Pages on this device, edits you make or new documents that you create aren’t saved to iCloud, and documents that are newly created or changed on other devices or on your computer aren’t available in Pages on this device.

Set documents in iCloud to download automatically

By default, Pages documents in iCloud are downloaded manually—you tap the iCloud icon on a document thumbnail in the document manager to download and open it. This feature helps save space on your device. You can change this setting so that documents download automatically each time you open Pages.

  1. Tap Settings on your Home screen.

  2. Scroll down to the apps at the bottom, then tap Pages.

  3. Turn off On-Demand Downloads.
