You can add a title or a caption (or both) to any object except for inline objects. A title can include a label, such as Figure or Gallery. You can also create your own labels.
Important: Labeled items are numbered automatically. If you delete the label from an object, the object won’t be numbered. For example, if you have an object labeled Figure 1.3, and you delete the label, the next figure in the book will be renumbered as Figure 1.3.
Select the object.
If the Widget inspector isn’t open, click the Inspector button
in the toolbar, click the Widget inspector button
, then click Layout.
Do one or more of the following:
Add a title: Select the Title checkbox.
Include an automatically updating label (such as Figure 1): Click the Label pop-up menu and choose an option.
If the Label pop-up menu is dimmed, select the Title checkbox.
Add a caption: Select the Caption checkbox.
To customize your titles or captions, do any of the following:
Adjust the position of the title and caption (in relation to the content and to each other): Click the Layout pop-up menu and choose an option.
Change the numbering style or formatting of a label: Click the Label pop-up menu and choose Edit Label Styles, then choose options from the Label Format and Character Style pop-up menus.
Note: If you change the numbering style or formatting of a label, the label is updated everywhere it appears in the book.
Adjust the spacing of the title and caption (in relation to the object’s outer border): Use the Margin controls.
