If an encrypted webpage doesn’t open

If you use parental controls to restrict a user from accessing adult websites, the user may also be unable to access encrypted websites, such as online stores. If this happens, specify the encrypted websites a user can access.

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Parental Controls.

Open Parental Controls preferences for me

  2. Select the user account that needs access to encrypted websites.

If necessary, click the lock icon to unlock the pane, then enter an administrator name and password.

  3. Click Web, then click the Customize button.

If the Customize button is dimmed, you haven’t yet set up parental controls to automatically restrict which sites the user can access. To set this up, click “Try to limit access to adult websites automatically.”

  4. For each website that you want to always let the user visit, click the Add button below the upper list, then enter the website’s URL.

To allow access to all the webpages in a website, enter the topmost domain name (for example, https://[sampleencryptedsite.org]).

You can also go to the website in Safari, click the address and search field to show the page’s full address and its icon (or favicon), then drag the icon to the website list in Parental Controls preferences.

To stop allowing access to a website, select it in the upper list, then click the Remove button below the list.

  5. Click OK, then close Parental Controls preferences.
