If Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox is your default browser, the first time you open Safari it automatically imports your bookmarks and history. You can decide to keep the imported items now, or you can try out Safari and decide later. If you don’t keep the imported items, you can have Safari re-import them later.
You can also import bookmarks that were exported in HTML format from Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, OmniWeb, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome.
Use items automatically imported from Firefox or Chrome: When you use Safari after using Firefox or Chrome, a notice at the bottom of the Favorites and Top Sites page asks you if you want to keep imported bookmarks and history. Your choices are:
Keep: Safari keeps your imported items.
Don’t Keep: Safari removes your imported items.
To postpone your decision and keep using Safari in the meantime, ignore the notice. It continues to appear on the Favorites and Top Sites page, but not on website pages you visit. To see the Favorites and Top Sites page, choose History > Show Top Sites.
Import from Firefox or Chrome later: Choose File > Import From > Google Chrome or File > Import From > Firefox, then select the items you want to import. You can do this any time after you start using Safari, even if you imported items already.
Import a bookmarks file: Choose File > Import From > Bookmarks HTML File, then select the file you want to import. After you import bookmarks, they appear at the bottom of the sidebar in a new folder whose name begins with “Imported” and ends with the date.
Export bookmarks: Choose File > Export Bookmarks. The exported file is called “Safari Bookmarks.html.”
