Transfer documents with iTunes

You can use iTunes on your computer to directly transfer documents between your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch and your computer. This is useful for transferring documents when you aren’t using iCloud.

You can also transfer Microsoft Word documents this way, then open them in Pages.

Transfer from your computer

  1. Connect your iOS device to your computer and open iTunes on your computer if it doesn’t open automatically.

After a moment, your iOS device appears in iTunes next to the media type pop-up menu.

  2. In iTunes, click your iOS device, then click Apps in the sidebar.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the window, then select Pages (below File Sharing).

If you don’t see the File Sharing section, make sure you’re not scrolling the Apps list.

  4. Click the Add button below the Pages Documents list.

  5. Locate and select the document, then click Add.

The document appears in the Pages Documents list in iTunes.

  6. Select the document in iTunes, then click Sync.

  7. Open Pages on your iOS device.

  8. In the document manager, tap Locations in the toolbar, then tap “Copy from iTunes.”

  9. Tap the document.

When the transfer is complete, the document appears in the document manager.

    • If the document is closed: Tap Share button in the document manager, tap Send a Copy, then tap the document you want to transfer.

  2. Tap the document format you want to export: Pages, PDF, Word, RTF, or ePub.

  3. Tap iTunes.

  4. Connect your iOS device to your computer (or use iTunes Wi-Fi Sync), then open iTunes on your computer.

  5. In iTunes on your computer, select your iOS device, then click Apps on the left side of the window.

  6. Scroll to the bottom of the window, then select Pages (below File Sharing).

If you don’t see the File Sharing section, make sure you’re not scrolling the Apps list.

Imported tables of contents are displayed but can’t be updated on your iOS device. After you export your document back to your Mac, you can update the table of contents.
