Do any of the following:
Select one or more characters: Click in front of the first character then drag across the characters.
Select a word: Double-click the word.
Select a paragraph: Triple-click in the paragraph.
Select multiple paragraphs: Select one paragraph, then hold down the Shift key as you click adjacent paragraphs, or hold down the Command key as you click any other paragraphs.
Select all text in a document: Choose Edit > Select All (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen).
Select a range of text: Click in front of the first character, then drag across the text. Or hold down the Shift key on your keyboard, then click at the end of the text. You can select just a few characters or a large amount of text across paragraphs or pages.
Note: If you click placeholder text, the entire block of text is selected.
