Add and edit lines and arrows

You can create a straight or curved line then customize it by changing its width (thickness) or color, or by adding different endpoints—for example, an arrow, circle, or square.

Add and edit a line

  1. Tap Insert button, then tap Shape button.

  2. Tap a straight or curved line.

  3. Tap anywhere on the page, then drag the line to where you want it.

  4. Drag the handles on the ends to change the line length and rotation.

For curved lines, drag the green dot to change the arc.

  5. Tap Format button, then tap a line style.

  6. Tap Style Options, then tap Line to adjust any of the following:

    • Color: Tap the color well, swipe to see the color options, then tap to select one. (See Fill shapes and text boxes with color for more information on choosing colors.)

    • Width: Drag the slider to change the line’s thickness.

    • Endpoints: Tap Arrowheads, then tap options for the left endpoint and right endpoint.

    • Line type: Tap an option at the bottom.

  7. In Style Options, tap Effects to adjust any of the following:

    • Shadow: Tap to turn on Shadow, then tap one of the shadow effects.

    • Reflection: Tap to turn on Reflection, then move the slider to adjust the effect.

    • Opacity: Move the Opacity slider to make the line more or less transparent.

Edit line curves and corners

You can edit a curved line to add right-angle corners or curves. As you edit, you can quickly change corners to curves and vice versa.

  1. Tap the curved line to select it.

  2. Tap Format button, tap Style, then tap Style Options.

  3. Tap Line, tap Connection, then tap an option to straighten the line or change the curve to right angles.

  4. Drag the green dot to change the position of the angles or the curve.

Connect two objects with a line

You can join two objects with a curved, straight, or right-angle connecting line. If you move one or more connected objects, they remain joined by the line. This is especially useful if you’re creating a flowchart.

  1. Tap Insert button, then tap Shape button.

  2. Tap the curved line to add it to the page, then tap anywhere on the page to dismiss the popover.

  3. Drag one endpoint of the line until it snaps to an object, then drag the other endpoint until it snaps to another object.

  4. To change the curved line to a straight or right-angle connecting line, tap Format button, tap Style, tap Style Options, tap Line, tap Connections, then tap an option to straighten the line or change the curve to right angles.

  5. To adjust the space between line endpoints and their connected shapes, select the line, tap Format button, tap Style, tap Style Options, tap Line, tap Connections, then drag the Outset sliders to add more or less space.

  6. To change the position of the angles or the curve, drag the green dot.

You can change the look of the connection line, just as you would any other line, by changing its thickness, color, line style, and endpoints, and by adding effects like a shadow and reflection.
