Advanced pane

The Advanced pane is not available until the Brush Type pop-up menu in the Shape Inspector’s Style pane is set to Airbrush or Image. The Advanced pane contains Dynamics controls that animate the dabs of a paint stroke like particles. Unlike particles, dabs are only “born” one time; but they can age and die like particles. When the Dynamics checkbox is deselected, dabs are immortal and are not animated.

Note: Although the Dynamics parameters are animated by default, you can customize the animation by keyframing or applying Parameter behaviors to the Dynamics parameters in the Advanced pane.

In addition to the Dynamics controls, the Advanced pane also contains controls for adjusting pen pressure and speed.

Dynamics controls

Select the activation checkbox and adjust this group of parameters to animate paint stroke dabs in particle-like fashion. Click the Show button on the right side of the Dynamics row to reveal the Dynamics controls:

Note: When a Simulation behavior is applied to a paint stroke, the Affect Subobjects parameter appears in the Behaviors Inspector only when the Dynamics checkbox is selected (in the Advanced pane of the Shape Inspector) for the paint stroke.

Pen Pressure and Pen Speed controls

When you draw paint strokes with a connected Wacom stylus and tablet, or apply a shape style from the Shape Style pop-up menu to an existing paint stroke, two additional groups of controls appear in the Advanced pane:

Note: Only strokes drawn using a stylus and tablet have recorded pressure variations. You can select how the pressure of the stylus affects the stroke in the Paint Tool HUD before you draw the stroke, or afterwards by activating this parameter in the Advanced pane.
