Auto Sampler makes it easy to create EXS24 mkII sampler instruments that you can use in MainStage and Logic Pro X. You can create a sampler instrument from a MIDI-capable hardware synthesizer, from a software instrument, or from a combination of synthesizers, software instruments, and effect plug-ins.
You can add Auto Sampler to an Audio FX slot in any MainStage channel strip type. The type and location of the channel strip determine what is captured to the resulting EXS24 mkII sampler instrument. For example:
Insert Auto Sampler in a software instrument channel strip to capture a software instrument.
Insert Auto Sampler in an external instrument channel strip to capture a hardware synthesizer.
Insert Auto Sampler in an auxiliary channel strip to capture all channels routed to the bus/send for that aux.
Insert Auto Sampler in an output channel strip (at the concert level) to capture all channel strips routed to that output.
Insert Auto Sampler in the master channel strip (at the concert level) to capture all channel strips (including all patches, plus all set- or concert-level channel strips) in the concert.
Where you place Auto Sampler in the signal chain relative to other plug-ins determines whether those plug-ins become part of the sound of the resulting sampler instrument. Plug-ins placed before Auto Sampler in the signal chain are part of the sound of the resulting sampler instrument, while plug-ins placed after Auto Sampler are not. If you want to include the sound of a delay, a compressor, or other effect plug-in, place the plug-in before Auto Sampler in the signal chain.
Note: Using effects when creating a sampler instrument is a creative process, but is different from using effects in performance in two ways: first, effects are applied to each sampled note, not on multiple notes or chords; and second, effects parameters cannot be edited or automated to produce changes in the sound over time.
The format of Auto Sampler (mono or stereo) depends on the format of the channel strip on which it is placed.
