Transfer presentations with iTunes

You can use iTunes on your computer to directly transfer presentations between your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch and your computer. This is useful for transferring presentations when you aren’t using iCloud.

You can also transfer Microsoft PowerPoint presentations this way, then open them in Keynote.

Transfer from your computer

  1. Connect your iOS device to your computer, then open iTunes on your computer if it doesn’t open automatically.

After a moment, the Device button appears in iTunes (near the top-left corner of the window).

  2. In iTunes, click the Device button, then click File Sharing in the sidebar.

  3. In the list on the left, select the Keynote app, then click Add.

  4. Select the presentation, then click Add.

The presentation appears in the Keynote Documents list in iTunes.

  5. Open Keynote on your iOS device.

  6. Tap the Files app on the Home screen, tap Browse at the bottom of the screen, then tap On My iPad, On My iPhone, or On My iPod touch.

  7. To open the presentation on your device, tap the Keynote folder, then tap the presentation thumbnail.

You can open presentations that were saved using Microsoft Office and edit them in Keynote. If you can’t open an encrypted PowerPoint presentation, try changing the type of encryption or the encryption options used, then save the presentation again before opening it in Keynote.

Transfer to your computer

You can use iTunes to transfer a presentation saved on your device to your computer.

  1. If the presentation isn’t already saved on your device, move the presentation to your device.

  2. Connect your iOS device to your computer (or use iTunes Wi-Fi Sync in Settings > General), then open iTunes on your computer.

After a moment, the Device button appears in iTunes (near the top-left corner of the window).

  3. In iTunes, click the Device button, then click File Sharing in the sidebar.

  4. In the list on the left, select the Keynote app, then select the presentation you want to transfer.

  5. Click Save, choose a location, then click Save.
