Do any of the following:
Select one or more characters: Click in front of the first character then drag across the characters you want to select.
Select a word: Double-click the word.
Select a paragraph: Triple-click in the paragraph.
Select multiple paragraphs: Select one paragraph, then hold down the Shift key as you click adjacent paragraphs, or hold down the Command key as you click any other paragraphs.
Select all text in a document: Choose Edit > Select All (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen).
Select a range of text: Click in front of the first character, then drag across the text you want, or hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and click at the end of the text you want. You can select just a few characters or a large amount of text.
Note: If you click placeholder text, the entire block of text is selected.
