Present on a separate display

If you want to show your presentation on a separate screen, you can connect your computer to a display, a projector, or Apple TV with AirPlay. The presentation plays on the connected screen, and your computer shows the presenter display. You can set the presenter display to show presenter notes, a timer, or a preview of the next slide.

If you’re using Apple TV and are mirroring your display, you won’t see the presenter display on your Mac.

Present on a separate display

Connect an external display to your computer with Airplay or a video adapter.
Click on your Mac.
Your presentation begins to play, and Keynote on your Mac switches to the presenter display. The presentation plays on the other screen.
A red bar appears across the top of your screen while a build or transition is playing.
You can change the layout to see the current slide, next slide, presenter notes, or any combination you like. Click and select from the options. When the next slide doesn’t immediately appear in a side-by-side layout, it indicates that a slide transition or build is still playing on the current slide. The next slide appears only when the presentation is ready to advance.
Press the Right Arrow key or Space bar to advance to the next build or slide.
Press the Esc key to exit the presentation.

To quickly switch the slideshow display (where the presentation plays) and presenter display, tap X on the keyboard.

Presenting with three or more displays

If you have two or more external displays connected to your Mac, you can set which display plays your presentation. The others show the presenter display

Connect two or more external displays to your computer.
In the presenter display, click .
Thumbnail images of the connected displays are shown (a maximum of six displays can be shown). The primary presenter display has a star next to its name and the label Primary Display. The primary presenter display has the presenter display toolbar and slide navigator, which lets you jump to a different slide.
Click Configure below each display, then choose from the different layout options.

Customize the presenter display

If you want to time yourself while giving a presentation, you can add a timer to the presenter display, or you can display a clock to keep track of the time while you present.

In the presenter display, click , then select the options you want to see while the presentation plays.
If you choose Timer, you can set the amount of time remaining in your presentation, and the timer counts down as you present. Choose Remaining, then enter a time value.
