You can listen to audiobooks purchased from the iTunes Store or the Audible website.
Audiobooks purchased from the iTunes Store can be played on up to five computers at a time. The computers must be authorized to play purchases from the iTunes Store. (You can’t play these files on a sixth computer until you deauthorize one of the already authorized computers.)
Audiobooks purchased from the Audible website can be downloaded to up to three computers at a time. The computers must be authorized to play purchases from Audible.
To see where an audiobook was purchased, select it, choose File > Get Info, and then look in the Kind field. Files purchased from the iTunes Store end in “.m4b.” Files purchased from the Audible website end in “.aa” or “.aax.”
If you can’t play a file you downloaded from the Audible website, you might have exceeded the number of computers authorized to play the Audible file. Or you may be trying to listen to an Audible file that was purchased using someone else’s account.
To see who downloaded an Audible file, select it in the library and choose File > Get Info. The Purchased By or Owner field shows the user name for the account holder who downloaded the file.
To listen to an audiobook:
In the list on the left side of the iTunes window, click Books
(below Library).
Select an audiobook and click Play
.
You can also double-click the audiobook to begin playing.
To authorize a computer:
To authorize a computer, it must be connected to the Internet.
To authorize a computer to play audiobooks purchased from the iTunes Store, choose Store > Authorize This Computer.
If the computer is already authorized to play iTunes Store purchases, you can use it to listen to audiobooks from the iTunes Store without any additional authorization.
To authorize a computer to play audiobooks from the Audible website, choose Advanced > Authorize Audible Account.
To deauthorize a computer:
To deauthorize a computer, it must be connected to the Internet.
If the item was purchased using your Apple or AOL account, choose Store > Deauthorize Computer on the computer you’ll no longer use to listen to your iTunes Store purchases. Then type your Apple ID and password and click Deauthorize.
If the item was purchased using your Audible account, choose Advanced > Deauthorize Audible Account on the computer you’ll no longer use to listen to your Audible purchases.
