Books created with iBooks Author require a sample file to be offered on Apple Books and iBooks Author creates one for you when you publish your book. During the publishing process iBooks Author creates a package with the extension .itmsp and saves it to the folder that contains your .ibooks file, cover art, and sample file. Then at the end of that export process, iTunes Producer opens the package for you to add your metadata and submit your book to Apple Books.
