iPod touch
Your child’s first smart device
When you decide your child is ready for their first smart device, you can customize their iPod touch—set up Family Sharing, have them ask before they make purchases, choose which apps they can use, and more.

Use Family Sharing
Add your child to your Family Sharing group so they can share music, movies, TV shows, books, and apps with the rest of the family. On your own iOS device, go to Settings > [your name] > Set Up Family Sharing or Manage Family.
If your child is under 13, Ask to Buy is enabled by default—so they can’t make purchases without asking you first.

Set some boundaries
You can use parental controls to, for example, disable access to Safari and Movies, or not allow your child to install apps. Go to Settings > General > Restrictions.
You can also keep things simple by deleting apps you don’t want your child to use. On the Home screen, just touch and hold an app until it jiggles, then tap .

Make it theirs
After you have everything set up on your end, help your child personalize their iPod touch. To add a favorite photo as the wallpaper, go to Settings > Wallpaper. To customize the sounds of their ringtone or text alert, go to Settings > Sounds. Or if you have a shared Apple Music subscription, help them add a couple favorite songs to their Library. Open Music, then tap Search to get started.

Keep them focused
Use Guided Access to limit your child to a single app—like iBooks or an educational game. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility, then scroll down and tap Guided Access to get set up.

Travel with iPod touch
Small, powerful, and packed with fun, iPod touch makes a great travel companion
Set up your iPod touch with music, books, games, and podcasts before your trip, and you’ll have hours of entertainment at your fingertips.

Bring your music with you
Make sure the songs you add from Apple Music are always on iPod touch. Go to Settings > Music, then turn on Automatic Downloads. Or if you only want to add specific playlists or songs, tap to add the song or playlist, then tap
to download it to your iPod touch.

Play games
Download multiplayer games that allow you to play against your travel partner through Bluetooth—so you don’t need Wi-Fi to play.
Before you leave on your trip (and while you’re still connected to Wi-Fi), open the App Store, search for “Bluetooth multiplayer,” then download the game you want. Tap , and email or text the link to your friend so they can download the game too.

Enjoy a good story
There’s nothing like a couple podcasts to help you pass the time when you’re on a long flight. Open Podcasts, then tap Browse to see what’s available. When you find something that catches your eye, tap the podcast, tap an episode, then tap .
