COUNTBLANK

The COUNTBLANK function returns the number of cells in a collection that are empty.

COUNTBLANK(range)

range: A collection consisting of a reference to a single range of cells.

Examples

The information in the following table is not meaningful, but is useful to illustrate the type of arguments COUNTBLANK includes in its result.

Given the following table:

A

B

C

D

1

200

300

400

2

FALSE

=COUNTBLANK(A1:D1) returns 0, because there are no blank cells in the collection referenced by the range.

=COUNTBLANK(A2:D2) returns 0, because there are no blank cells in the collection referenced by the range.

=COUNTBLANK(A5:D5) returns 2, because there are two blank cells in the collection referenced by the range.

=COUNTBLANK(A6:D6) returns 4, because there are only blank cells in the collection referenced by the range.

=COUNTBLANK(A1:D6) returns 6, because there are a total of 6 blank cells in the collection referenced by the range.

=COUNTBLANK(A1:D1, A5:D5) returns an error, because COUNTBLANK accepts only one collection as an argument.
