You can’t edit the name of an image with System Image Utility after you create it. However, there are other ways to change the name.
Mount the image in the Finder by opening the .nbi folder containing the image and double-clicking it.
Open Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities/) and enter the following command to rename the image:
$ sudo diskutil rename /Volumes/image new_name
Replace image with the name of the image to rename and new_name with the new name of the image.
When prompted, enter your administrator password.
The name of the image changes.
Unmount the image.
Remount the image to verify that it’s renamed.
Mount the image in the Finder by opening the .nbi folder containing the image and double-clicking it.
Open Disk Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities/).
Select the image and click Convert.
In the Save As field, enter a name.
Select a different location to save the image to.
For example, save the image in the Desktop folder.
From the Image Format menu, choose read/write.
Click Save.
Unmount the image.
Mount the new image in the Finder.
Open Terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities/) and enter the following to rename the image:
$ sudo diskutil rename /Volumes/image new_name
Replace image with the name of the image to rename and new_name with the new name of the image.
When prompted, enter your administrator password.
The name of the image changes.
Unmount the image.
Remount the image to verify that the image is renamed.
Unmount the image.
Remove the original image from the .nbi folder and store it somewhere else.
In Disk Utility, select the new image, then click Convert.
Give the image the same name as the one it had inside the .nbi folder.
Select the .nbi folder in the Where field.
From the Format menu, choose Compressed.
Click Save.
Test the new image to make sure it mounts properly.
Discard the old image.
