Use the Server app to add a primary zone to your DNS server.
Select DNS in the Server app sidebar.
Click Add , then choose Add Primary Zone from the pop-up menu.
In the Name field, enter the zone name.
This is the fully qualified domain name of the primary server.
Click the “Zone data is valid for” pop-up menu, then choose how many hours the zone is valid.
This is the zone’s time to live (TTL) setting. It determines how long query response information can remain cached in remote DNS systems before requerying the authoritative server.
Select “Allows zone transfer” to permit secondary zones to get copies of the primary zone data.
If there’s a secondary zone server active, set the data update frequency and retry rate.
Click Create.
