Choose group services

Use the Server app to enable group services and create a shared folder for the group, make group members Messages buddies, and create a wiki for the group.

Shared folders are stored in /Groups/groupname/ on the server. Users can access them by connecting to afp://servername/Groups/groupname/.

If your server provides Messages service, users have Jabber-based chat accounts, and you can make group members Messages buddies.

For information about creating a service access control list (controlling which groups have access to a service), see Define service access by users.

  1. Select Groups in the Server app sidebar.

  2. Double-click a group name, or click the Action pop-up menu gear, then choose Edit Group.

  3. The following options are available:

    • Give this group a shared folder: Create a shared folder on the server for the group in /Groups/groupname/. When group members log in, they can connect to smb://servername/Groups/groupname/ in the Finder, then upload files to the folder.

    • Make group members Messages buddies: Include group members as Messages buddies. When group members open Messages, the server is included as a Messages server, and group members are included in the buddies list.

    • Enable group mailing list: Create a mailing list accessible by the group’s members. You can use this address to email all members of the group.

    • Create Group Wiki: Create a private wiki for the group. Group members can create and edit content in the wiki.

  4. Click Done to save your changes.
